Generally if a person wakes up energetic and suddenly experiences a sugar rush then it is caused inadequate dose of insulin during sleeping hours. Somogyi effect is the prime reason for this. If a person does not eat his bedtime snack; his blood sugar may drop. This will trigger the hormones that undo the effect of decreased levels of sugar. The hormones play their part when the person is sleeping and as a result the person experiences an increase in the level of blood glucose.
If a person wakes with high glucose levels in the morning he should spend the day in a manner to stay away from the food items with high levels of GI. The ideal level of sugar in blood should be between 80mg/dl and 120 mg/dl before meals and in the morning. After meals the level goes up but it should not be more than 160 mg/dl. Before finishing the day and just before going to bed the blood sugar level ranges from 100 mg/dl ~140 mg/dl.
